From Potteries to Heartbreak Hill: ’Arf Marathon 2025

Stoke-on-Trent is gearing up for one of its most iconic events, the Hanley Economic Potters ’Arf Marathon – returning to the streets on Sunday 28th September 2025. Known for its warm local atmosphere, challenging course, and community pride, this half marathon (or ‘arf’, as it’s affectionately known) has earned its place as a firm favourite on the national running calendar.

Runners, walkers, relay teams, and junior racers will once again take on the challenge of this legendary event, including the infamous Heartbreak Hill at 11.5 miles. This year, Rebus Training will be running and raising vital funds for The Hubb Foundation, alongside Hettie Williams, making every mile count for local children and families.

Something for everyone, not just runners

The Potters ’Arf is designed for all abilities. Walkers start at 8:30am, setting off early to enjoy the course at a more relaxed pace, while the relay event is perfect for those who want to share the challenge. With teams of 2 to 4 participants, the relay is a fun and social way for groups, businesses, or families to experience the excitement together.

For younger athletes, the city centre will host the 1km junior race for ages 5 to 11 and the 2km race for 12 to 16 year olds. These events are designed to be manageable, fun, and full of encouragement, giving young people the chance to enjoy the buzz of race day and be part of the action.

Running for The Hubb Foundation

This year, we’re shining a spotlight on Hettie Williams: secondary school teacher and the Rebus Training team who are taking on the ‘Arf Marathon challenge and raising funds for The Hubb Foundation. Their efforts will help provide meals, activities, and opportunities for children who need them most across Stoke-on-Trent. By stepping up to the challenge, these runners, are making a real difference in their local community.

We recently caught up with Hettie, who is gearing up for her first ever half marathon to raise funds for The Hubb Foundation. Hetty shared how passionate she is about supporting local children and families across Stoke-on-Trent, especially those struggling during the school holidays. Her training is in full swing, and her determination to make every mile count is truly inspiring!

Meanwhile, the team at Rebus Training Ltd, long time supporters of The Hubb Foundation, continue to go above and beyond; from food bank appeals to running for our cause. We’ve put some questions to the runners, so check out our next blog to see how their training is going and follow their journey to the big day.

There’s still time to back Hettie and Team Rebus as they take on this incredible challenge. Every pound goes directly towards helping local children enjoy safe spaces, healthy meals, and fun activities during the school holidays … donate today and help us reach more families.
