The Hubb Foundation is proud to announce that its founder, Carol Shanahan OBE, has transitioned from her role as a trustee to become Patron of the charity. This milestone reflects Carol’s ongoing dedication to the charity’s mission and her remarkable legacy of service to Stoke-on-Trent.
Since founding The Hubb Foundation in 2018, Carol has been a driving force in transforming the lives of young people and families across the city. Under her leadership, the charity has delivered vital support through initiatives such as the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, providing nutritious meals and enriching activities to children during school holidays. Earlier this year, The Hubb Foundation celebrated serving its millionth meal—a testament to Carol’s vision and commitment.

Carol’s leadership extended beyond the foundation. Her efforts during the pandemic were particularly noteworthy, as she transformed Port Vale Football Club into a community hub, coordinating the delivery of over 350,000 meals alongside essential supplies. Her contributions have been widely recognised, including an OBE and honorary doctorates from Keele and Staffordshire Universities.
The current Chair of Trustees of the Hubb Foundation, Jane Sawyers, former Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police, praised Carol’s impact on the community, saying:
“Carol’s vision and tireless dedication have laid a strong foundation for The Hubb Foundation’s work in supporting vulnerable children and families. Our work empowers young children in Stoke-on-Trent, supporting their academic success and developing physical and emotional wellbeing to positively affect social change. None of this would have been possible without the vision and compassion of our Founder and Patron, Carol Shanahan. On behalf of the trustees, staff, volunteers, and the families we serve, I would like to thank Carol for her incredible contributions over the last six years.”
As Patron, Carol will continue to champion the foundation’s work while providing guidance and inspiration to the team as they build on her legacy.
”Moving our company, Synectics Solutions, to Burslem was a turning point in my life. I came to know and love a community that faced challenges from losing its major employers but retained it’s resilience and character. It was obvious that more support was needed and especially for children and families during the school holiday periods. From here the Hubb Foundation was born and through the hard work and commitment of its staff led by Adam Yates and the board led by Jane Sawyers it has grown from strength to strength. After delivery our (first!) millionth meal i feel the time is right to become Patron of the charity where my love for the work of the Hubb Foundation Foundation and my support is undiminished.”
We welcome Carol in her new role as the Hubb Foundation’s Patron.
